(VOR News) – On Sunday, a toddler was among the four Helicopter occupants killed in a crash in Houston, Texas. The four individuals inside the helicopter perished.
Mayor John Whitmire told reporters that a massive explosion happened after a chopper crashed into a communication tower behind houses in Houston’s Second Ward. The crash happened at about eight o’clock at night. The crash happened close to the intersection of Engelke Street and North Ennis Street, respectively.
He disclosed at the press conference that the explosion was audible at a fire station, which was located less than 0.5 miles from the scene of the incident. A fireball that lights up the night sky has been captured in dramatic videos that have been shared online and by local media. These movies show the exact moment of impact.
To yet, no official statement has been released disclosing the identities or ages of the individual victims.
The fire service said on X, “PIO is currently en route to a reported helicopter crash at Engelke & Ennis.”
The fire department supplied this information. Houston City Council member Mario Castillo said on X that the plane that went down in the Second Ward was a private touring helicopter rather than a Houston Police Department helicopter. Castillo stated this from Houston City Council’s point of view.
Witness Manuel Arciniega informed KPRC, “My companion behind me urged me to look up at the sky, and I observed the cell tower collapsing.” He was present during the incident. “I just witnessed the cell tower collapsing.” They asserted that it had been impacted by a chopper of some kind.
At that moment, Sam Elsaadi was dining on the patio of a local restaurant while observing the fall of the towering structure. Elsaadi, 42, is cited as stating, “I heard something that sounded like fireworks, and when I looked up, I saw the tower completely collapse and flame out,” in an interview with the New York Times.
As he drove to the scene of the crash, he noticed that the tower had left debris scattered over a large area and that the field’s grass was on fire. In addition, he could see that the grass was burning.
Law enforcement and fire officials have encouraged neighbors who live near the collision site to dial 911 right away if they discover anything on their property that might help with the investigation.
According to the mayor, Ellington Airport, which is 17 miles south of the scene, appears to be where the chopper took off.
The helicopter mayor, on the other hand, did not say where the plane was going.
In addition to saying, “The helicopter residents are secure and safe, but we have a terrible accident scene,” he also mentioned that power outages are occurring in a number of nearby residences. It seemed to him that the accident scene was horrifying.
Whitmire expressed his relief that the explosion was quite small, even though he had been worried about the possible consequences due to a butane tank nearby. He had previously been concerned about the outcomes that might occur.
Chief Noe Diaz of the Houston Police Department issued a request helicopter asking residents to avoid touching any airplane debris they may come across.
When dawn comes, you are kindly requested not to handle any airplane parts that you may come across. I appreciate your cooperation. Diaz recommended that we give 911 a call and provide us with information about where they are.
According to a statement issued by the fire department, the inquiry into the incident will be led by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration. “It will be a thorough investigation due to the accident’s magnitude,” Diaz stated in his statement.
