ATLANTA, Ga. – Jenna Ellis, an attorney and famous conservative media figure, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a criminal charge stemming from her efforts to overturn Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss in Georgia, telling the judge emotionally that she looks back on that time with “deep remorse.”
Ellis, the fourth defendant in the case to strike a plea deal, was a vociferous supporter of Trump’s reelection campaign in the last presidential cycle and was charged with breaching the state’s anti-racketeering legislation with the Republican former president and 17 others.
Ellis pleaded guilty to one felony count of making false statements and writings. She was charged with violating Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organisations Act and soliciting a public officer’s violation of oath, both crimes.
She stood up to speak after pleading guilty, fighting back tears as she said she would not have represented Trump after the 2020 election if she had known what she knows now, alleging she depended on lawyers with far more expertise than her and failed to verify what they told her.
“What I did not do but should have done, Your Honour, was to make sure that the facts the other lawyers alleged to be true were in fact true,” Ellis, who was 38 years old at the time, said.
Ellis’ guilty plea comes just days after the guilty pleas of two other defendants, fellow solicitors Sidney Powell and Kenneth Chesebro. That means three high-profile people behind the frivolous legal challenges to Democrat Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory have opted to accept blame rather than face a jury.

She was sentenced to five years probation, $5,000 in restitution, 100 hours of community service, writing an apology letter to the people of Georgia, and testifying truthfully in this case’s trials.

Prosecutor Daysha Young testified in court Tuesday that Ellis attended a meeting of Georgia state senators in December 2020 with Trump’s attorney, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Georgia-based attorney Ray Smith. Ellis “intentionally aided and abetted” the other two in making false representations to lawmakers, including that more than 2,500 felons, more than 66,000 persons under 18, and more than 10,000 dead people participated in Georgia’s 2020 election, according to Young.
Ellis, who lives in Florida, was outspoken before her plea, writing on X, the social media platform formerly Twitter, in August, “The Democrats and the Fulton County DA are criminalizing the practise of law.” “I am determined to put my trust in the Lord.”
She has recently been more critical of Trump, declaring on conservative radio in September that she would not vote for him again, noting his “malignant, narcissistic tendency to simply say that he’s never done anything wrong.”
Along with Giuliani, Ellis was a key figure in the Trump campaign’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, routinely appearing on television and in conservative media to propagate misinformation and conspiracy theories alleging rampant fraud that did not occur.
In March, she was convicted in Colorado for repeating false comments concerning the 2020 election.
That punishment was imposed partly because she stated on Newsmax on November 20, 2020, that “with all those states (Nevada, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Georgia) combined, we know that the election was stolen from President Trump, and we can prove it.”
Powell pleaded guilty to six misdemeanors and was sentenced to six years probation and a $6,000 fine. Chesebro pleaded guilty to one crime and was sentenced to five years of probation, $5,000 in reparations, and 100 hours of community service. Scott Graham Hall, a bail bondsman, pleaded guilty to five misdemeanour offenses and was sentenced to five years of probation. They were all required to send letters of apology to the people of Georgia and testify truthfully in any subsequent trials.
Ellis and the other three pleaded guilty by Georgia’s first-offender statute. That means their records will be cleared if they finish their probation without breaching the terms or committing another felony.
Trump and the other defendants have pled not guilty, including Trump’s White House chief of staff Mark Meadows.

The Oxford University Press emphasized that lexicographers are writing a draft definition “for the Word of the Year campaign” and that terms without draft definitions are already in the OED.

DETROIT, MI — BMW is recalling a small number of SUVs in the United States because the driver’s air bag inflators can rupture in a crash, throwing metal shards and potentially harming or killing passengers.
According to documents issued Saturday by US auto safety regulators, the recall involves 486 X3, X4, and X5 SUVs from the 2014 model year that are fitted with Takata Corp. of Japan airbags.
The recall calls into doubt the safety of around 30 million Takata inflators, which the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating. The vast majority have yet to be recalled.
Takata created a minor explosion using explosive ammonium nitrate to inflate airbags in a crash. However, the chemical might deteriorate over time when exposed to high temperatures and humidity. It can potentially detonate violently, destroying a metal canister and spilling shrapnel.
Takata inflators have killed at least 26 individuals in the United States since May 2009, and at least 30 people have perished globally, including those in Malaysia and Australia. A further 400 persons have been injured.
The risk of a dangerous malfunction prompted the greatest auto recalls in US history, involving at least 67 million Takata inflators. According to the US government, many still need to be restored. In a statement about the GM recall last summer, the NHTSA stated that it had no data indicating that other desiccated Takata inflators would burst.
