Megalopolis Trailer Pulled By Lionsgate Over Fabricated Critics Quotes

Megalopolis Trailer has been pulled by Lionsgate Films after it came to light that the critics’ quotes in the movie used were fabricated, according to a representative who spoke with Fox News Digital.

Lionsgate Films stated it was immediately recalling the trailer for Megalopolis. A Lionsgate spokesperson said in a statement. “We offer our sincere apologies to the critics involved and to Francis Ford Coppola and American Zoetrope for this inexcusable error in our vetting process. We screwed up. We are sorry.”

Released on Wednesday, the Megalopolis teaser used statements from critics such as Pauline Kael and Roger Ebert from previous Coppola films, even though these quotes did not appear in their evaluations.

Taking advantage of some of the stronger critical backlash towards September’s self-financed $120 million epic “Megalopolis,” the goal appears to have been to draw attention to the polarising reception that now-classics like “The Godfather” and “Apocalypse Now” received.

Guardian Goes Woke on “Megalopolis”

Even before its release, “Megalopolis” has been divisive. According to a May article in The Guardian, Coppola exhibited “old school” conduct towards female coworkers.

A source informed the newspaper that the director allegedly coaxed ladies into sitting on his lap. Reportedly, Coppola tried to kiss scantily clothed or topless female extras while filming a scene in a nightclub.

“I have known and worked with Francis and his family for over 35 years,” shared Darren Demetre, executive co-producer of “Megalopolis” with The Guardian at the time.

On his latest epic, “Megalopolis,” I served as an executive producer, second unit supervisor, and first assistant director, all while advising on and directing the production. Francis remained faithful to his creative vision while producing and directing a big independent film, making all the tough decisions to assure its timely and budgetary delivery.

“There were two days when we shot a celebratory Studio 54-esque club scene where Francis walked around the set to establish the spirit of the scene by giving kind hugs and kisses on the cheek to the cast and background players,” according to the statement.

The club vibe was crucial to the plot of the film, and it was his way of contributing to that vibe. Throughout the duration of the project, I did not become aware of any allegations of harassment or inappropriate behaviour.
