Poland’s Miroslaw Wins Gold in Paris in Sport Climbing Combined
Aleksandra Mirosław of Poland won gold in the sports combined climbing Olympics in Paris. Lijuan Deng of China won silver, while her Polish teammate Aleksandra Kalucka took bronze.
Aleksandra Miroslaw of Poland defeated China’s Deng Lijuan in the major final to capture sport climbing women’s speed gold in the event’s Olympic debut at Paris 2024 on Wednesday. The two-time world champion, who established a new world record of 6.06 seconds on Monday, ran 6.10 to surpass Zhou’s personal best of 6.18.
“That means a lot. It’s like the first time for sports climbing combined and for me in this discipline, and I’m holding my flag and standing on the podium in first place, hearing the national song.
Miroslaw, who nearly missed the podium in women’s combined at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, thought it was incredible. When asked how far she could go, the Pole said, “I’m not sure.” “The sky is the limit, I would say,” she continued.
Deng’s silver medal is China’s first Olympic sport climbing medal, although she did not appear overcome with emotion.
“I believe I have yet to realise what I have accomplished. “I’m at a loss at the moment,” said the 24-year-old. “I think I’m a calm person, which is good for the sport.”

Deng claimed she was in a soundless world of her own, despite the screaming spectators before the competition.
Deng defeated defending world champion Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi of Indonesia by 0.006 seconds in the quarterfinals, the closest match of the day, and went on to win the semifinal against another Indonesian climber, Rajiah Sallsabillah.
“I did not think too much. “I just focused on doing my best and concentrating on each climb without thinking about anything else,” Deng told Xinhua.
In the minor final, another Pole, Aleksandra Kalucka (6.53), defeated Sallsabillah (8.24), to take bronze.
“I was overjoyed and couldn’t believe I had just won (the) bronze medal. “I’m overjoyed and proud of myself for doing it,” Kalucka remarked.
The 22-year-old revealed that she texted her twin sister Natalie first after the match to express her excitement. Natalie is also one of the world’s best sport climbers, but she was unable to compete at the Olympics because each National Olympic Committee has only two quota seats.
“My sister is the most significant figure in my life. She gives me everything every day, and I can honestly say that without her, I wouldn’t be here,” she explained.
Alberto Gines Lopez of Spain led the field in the men’s combined competition earlier on Wednesday with 72 points and advanced to the final on Friday in fourth place overall, while Sorato Anraku of Japan, who finished fourth with 68 points, entered the final as the top finisher overall.
