Derek Carr Agrees To 4-Year Contract with Saints

Published

CITY OF NEW ORLEANS — A source familiar with the deal confirmed on Monday that former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr had signed a four-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

As the deal with the free-agent veteran quarterback had not yet been made public, the source spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Carr spent nine years in the Raiders’ lineup, setting franchise marks in passing yards (35,222) and touchdown passes (240). (217). However, he was never able to secure a victory in the postseason. Carr also had a poor finish to the 2017 season, which led to him being benched for the final two games.

Carr’s release from Las Vegas came on February 14 after he refused to waive the no-trade clause in his contract; his 32nd birthday is on March 28. By that time, $40.4 million of his contract would have become fully guaranteed over the next two years, making it imperative that Las Vegas either trade for or release him.

Currently, the head coach of the New Orleans Saints, Dennis Allen, was the head coach of the Oakland Raiders when they made their second-round draft pick in 2014, selecting Carr out of Fresno State. That season, Allen coached Carr for only four games before being let go.

With this move, the Saints have brought some stability to a key position in question following their 7-10 season in 2022.

Even though Jameis Winston is signed with the Saints through 2023, New Orleans can release him. His base salary for 2020 is $12.8 million, and he only started three games before losing his job to Andy Dalton in 2022, partly because of a back injury.

After getting hurt in Week 1, Winston tried to play through it in Weeks 2 and 3, but he was sacked seven times, threw five interceptions, and threw for only two touchdowns.

Dalton completed 66.7% of his passes for 2,871 yards with 18 touchdowns and 9 interceptions in 14 starts, but the Saints stuck with him even after Winston said he was healthy enough to play again and wanted another chance.

Dalton, who is 35 and has played in the NFL for 12 years, will be a free agent after the 2018 season ends.

Milton Keynes, England – Red Bull announced Wednesday that Adrian Newey, the designer who played a key role in Red Bull’s Formula One supremacy, will retire early next year.

The 65-year-old Newey will retire from his nearly two-decade career at Red Bull in the “first quarter of 2025.”

“For almost two decades it has been my great honor to have played a key role in Red Bull Racing’s progress from upstart newcomer to multiple title-winning team,” stated the former Ferrari driver. “However, I feel now is an opportune moment to hand that baton over to others and to seek new challenges for myself.”

Adrian joined Red Bull in 2006 and has helped the team win seven driver’s titles, including the last three seasons for defending champion Max Verstappen and six constructors’ crowns.

Red Bull announced that its chief technical officer will step away from F1 design to focus on the company’s first hypercar, the RB 17.

“All of our greatest moments from the past 20 years have come with Adrian’s hand on the technical tiller,” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner stated. “When Adrian joined Red Bull, I knew he was already a famous designer. Two decades and 13 championships later, he is remembered as a true legend. He is also my friend, and I shall be eternally grateful to him for everything he contributed to our collaboration.”

The news of Newey’s leaving could result in a bidding war for his services. Because Newey is free to join another team after leaving Red Bull, he has the potential to have an impact on the 2026 vehicle for whichever team he chooses. The next major regulatory reform is scheduled for 2026, and having Newey on board would provide a huge edge to his future employers.

Mike Trout’s Exceptional Talent Characterized His Initial Decade In The Sport Of Baseball. Currently, Injuries Are The Focal Point Of Attention.

ANAHEIM, California (AP) – Mike Trout remained injury-free throughout his illustrious baseball career until May 2017, when he suffered a torn thumb ligament while sliding headfirst into second base.

Upon his return after missing 39 games, the renowned power hitter successfully stole second base, employing a headfirst sliding technique once more.

“I will not alter my playing style,” stated Trout with a smile that evening in the Los Angeles Angels’ clubhouse, displaying the self-assurance of a remarkable young athlete.

Less than seven years later, in the corridor outside the identical Anaheim clubhouse, Trout struggled to hold back tears on Tuesday as he publicly grappled with his fourth significant injury in the last four seasons.

“It is simply exasperating,” he murmured softly, his gaze averted.” “However, we will overcome this situation.” I exert a high level of effort while playing the game, and unforeseen events occur as a result.

Trout may still have the title of the most exceptional baseball player of his generation, but he will never again possess the same sense of invincibility he had at the age of 25. Similar to Ken Griffey Jr. in the past, Trout has encountered physical issues during his mid-career, which have hindered his rapid rise to success and slowed down his impressive performance at the plate.

Mike Trout’s Exceptional Talent Characterized His Initial Decade In The Sport Of Baseball. Currently, Injuries Are The Focal Point Of Attention.

Despite the continued brilliance of 32-year-old Trout’s skills and enthusiasm on the field, his physical well-being has been compromised during his second decade in professional baseball.

Trout has participated in 266 games since the commencement of the 2021 season. The upcoming encounter between the Angels and Philadelphia on Wednesday will be the 251st game that he has been absent from during this period.

Trout achieved 285 home runs in his career before winning his third AL MVP award in 2019. Since then, the center fielder for the Angels has only hit 93 home runs in the four-plus seasons. His 2020 campaign was shortened due to COVID-19, and injuries have further hindered his performance.

Following the 2019 season, Trout’s hit count stood at 1,324, but he has only managed to add 324 hits since then, thus impeding his progress towards reaching 2,000 or 3,000 hits. Since 2019, his batting average (.277) and OPS (.958) have been notably lower than his career averages.

Trout’s bat speed is one of the quickest in the major leagues. However, he has admitted to facing difficulties with his mechanics during the previous two seasons. These challenges include a decrease in his ability to make contact with the ball and problems when facing pitchers who throw at high speeds. Trout maintained his position as the leader in the big leagues with 10 home runs until sustaining an injury this week. However, his batting average had dropped to .220, causing his lifetime average to briefly fall below .300 before his injury.

Trout now has a damaged meniscus in his left knee. Adding to his frustration, he is unsure of the cause – it might have occurred while racing in the outfield or walking to the dugout.

“Mike’s desire to play exceeds that of anyone else,” stated Angels general manager Perry Minasian. “He has a strong affection for this.” He has a deep affection for every aspect of this. Upon awakening, he contemplates it. He contemplates it before going to sleep. He is completely devoted to baseball, making it a central part of his life. I empathize deeply with him.

Trout emerged as a prominent and impressive player in baseball throughout the 2010s. Hailing from a little hamlet in southern New Jersey, he captivated the sport when he joined Orange County. He possesses an electrifying ability to hit the ball, displays excitement and skill in fielding, and is known for his intensely competitive nature, sometimes compared to Mickey Mantle as a successor regarding spiritual qualities.

Mike Trout’s Exceptional Talent Characterized His Initial Decade In The Sport Of Baseball. Currently, Injuries Are The Focal Point Of Attention.

Trout displayed remarkable versatility despite his sole achievement of leading the Angels to the playoffs in 2014. However, as the Halos’ consecutive losing seasons accumulated, he progressively grew acquainted with anguish, nights without sleep, and endless medical interventions.

Trout’s participation in the 2021 season was limited to only 36 games due to a perplexingly long recovery from a strained calf. Despite a back injury that caused him to miss five weeks of the 2022 season, he hit an impressive 40 home runs.

Trout sustained a hand fracture while attempting to catch a foul ball on July 3rd of last year. In August, he attempted to return when there was a fleeting possibility of the Angels making a postseason push. However, he only managed to play one agonizing game before deciding to end his season.

According to new Angels manager Ron Washington, Trout has exhibited a positive mental state throughout this season. “He was thoroughly enjoying his visits to the ballpark and eagerly embracing the opportunity to immerse himself in the rhythm of the season. Unfortunately, an unexpected event disrupted his plans.”

The Angels have not specified a timeframe for Trout’s recovery following surgery. However, it is common for sportsmen with this condition to be sidelined for a minimum of a few months, frequently more.

Regardless of whether Trout is present, the Angels are now experiencing a period of decline.

The team lost Shohei Ohtani, who signed a lucrative $700 million free-agent contract with the nearby Dodgers. Additionally, the front management needed to acquire notable assistance for Trout. The Halos are now at a record of 11-19 heading into May, losing 10 out of their last 12 games. It is becoming increasingly probable that they will have their 10th consecutive non-playoff season and their ninth consecutive losing season, which are currently the longest active records in Major League Baseball.

The injury issues faced by Trout have had a devastating impact on his franchise. Similarly, the substantial injury troubles of Anthony Rendon, the third baseman who owner Arte Moreno signed for a hefty $245 million, were intended to complement Trout’s abilities and offer a dynamic partnership. Rendon is presently sidelined with another ailment, a hamstring strain unlikely to mend expeditiously.During the abbreviated 2020 season, Rendon and Trout shared the field for 46 out of 60 games. Subsequently, the Angels’ top two earners have collectively participated in a mere 118 out of the team’s 516 games (22.8%) since the commencement of the 2021 season.

Trout, being older and more delicate than the youthful star of the previous decade, has gained wisdom. Nowadays, when he slides, he tries to go feet-first and wears a large, protective sliding mitt.

His contract, worth $426.5 million, is valid until 2030. He has often expressed his lack of desire to depart from Anaheim. Trout remains determined to transform the Angels into a successful team, anticipating greater satisfaction due to the lengthy process.

However, before that, additional surgery and subsequent rehabilitation must be undergone.

“The procedure is quite straightforward,” Trout stated. I will promptly obtain it and return as quickly as possible. “However, this is challenging.”

The location is Dover, Delaware. Prior to the Dover race, Denny Hamlin confidently predicted a victory on his podcast and successfully fulfilled his bold claim, reminiscent of Babe Ruth’s famous declaration. He skillfully fended off Kyle Larson in the final moments of the race, ultimately securing a win and parking his Toyota in the winner’s circle.

Hamlin skillfully maneuvered through slower cars and successfully prevented Larson from overtaking him in the closing laps of the race, showcasing the exceptional driving skills of both NASCAR’s top drivers. Ultimately, Hamlin emerged victorious, winning the Cup race by a margin of almost 0.25 seconds at Dover Motor Speedway on Sunday.

“If you’re going to speak, you must ensure that you win,” Hamlin asserted confidently.

Denny Hamlin Holds Off Larson Late To Win NASCAR Cup Race At Dover Motor Speedway

Hamlin has perfected the victory lane celebration this season. Last week, he commemorated his position as co-owner of 23XI Racing by celebrating at Talladega Superspeedway when Tyler Reddick emerged as the victor. Hamlin’s involvement was somewhat eclipsed by his counterpart team owner, Michael Jordan. Jordan, the owner of a NASCAR Cup team, was present at the track for the first time to personally experience the joy of one of his drivers winning a race.

Hamlin, a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, claimed the Monster trophy this week at Dover, showcasing his skills in the spotlight.

“There is a slight distinction between winning as a driver and winning as a car owner,” Hamlin remarked.

Hamlin felt confident that he would win. Publicly, he expressed his willingness to claim that he would conquer the Monster Mile, even making a reference to Babe Ruth on the podcast.

“I will make a decision or prediction at this moment.” “We are confident that we will emerge victorious at Dover,” Hamlin stated in a recent interview on “Actions Detrimental.” Do you understand?

Understood.

“Hopefully, some listeners of ‘Actions Detrimental’ may have profited today,” Hamlin expressed.

Hamlin dominated by leading 136 out of the 400 laps and was victorious at Dover for the second race in his career.

Appropriately, the Babe, referring to Babe Ruth, donned the number 3 jersey for the New York Yankees. In a gesture of homage to the team’s third victory of the season, Hamlin and the other members of his team, who wore the number 11, displayed three fingers.

Hamlin has achieved three victories, which is the same number as William Byron, making them both the top winners in the series this season. Additionally, Hamlin achieved his 54th victory in the Cup series, all of which were obtained while racing for Joe Gibbs Racing. He is currently ranked 12th on the all-time career Cup tally, tied with Lee Petty.

“I was unable to grasp Lee Petty’s helmet,” Hamlin stated.

The tone for the season was established from the very beginning as Hamlin emerged victorious in the Clash at the Coliseum exhibition race.

Larson secured the second position and closely pursued Hamlin’s car throughout the last 25 laps, appearing poised to overtake the Toyota. Larson’s No. 5 Chevrolet was unable to successfully complete the race on the one-mile concrete course. Hamlin seized the lead after a restart with 81 laps remaining and maintained it throughout the race, consistently preventing Larson’s Chevy from overtaking him at the highest part of the course.

“I was completely incapacitated,” Larson stated. “No object could attain sufficient velocity to approach close enough to take any action.”

Hamlin received a resounding chorus of booing as he triumphantly held the checkered flag, with the boos being louder than normal due to the unexpectedly large number of spectators in the grandstands.

Following the cancellation of races due to rain in the previous two years, the weather was favorable on Sunday, attracting a large number of spectators. The grandstands were filled to their maximum capacity of 54,000, with no empty seats in sight. Although NASCAR venues do not publicly disclose attendance figures, the audience at Dover was undeniably the largest since the period preceding the pandemic.

Martin Truex Jr., Kyle Busch, and Chase Elliott finished in the top five positions.

The large one

At the 71st lap of the race, a collision involving multiple cars occurred, resulting in the elimination of Christopher Bell, Bubba Wallace, and William Byron.

Following a restart, Zane Smith made contact with the left rear of Wallace’s Toyota, causing him to collide with several cars including Byron and Bell. At the moment of the collision, Wallace was in the 11th position. Bell finished in the 16th position, while Byron finished in the 18th position.

Truex is nearby.

One year after the Truex brothers achieved a clean sweep at Dover, with Ryan Truex winning the Xfinity race and Martin Truex winning the Cup race, they were unable to replicate their success. Ryan Truex achieved consecutive victories after winning his second consecutive Xfinity race on Saturday. Martin Truex became victorious in the initial part of the race, leading for a total of 69 laps until his Toyota incurred damage to its front end.

“Today, Martin Truex expressed the sentiment that we missed an opportunity,” Truex stated. “It is imperative that you maintain control of these races throughout the entire stage.” As the track changes, you fall behind.

Substitute for an all-star

Kevin Harvick, the former NASCAR champion who retired after the previous season, will substitute for Larson in practice and qualifying for the NASCAR All-Star race by driving the No. 5 Chevrolet.

Larson will opt to remain in Indianapolis on May 17 to engage in practice sessions specifically for the Indianapolis 500, instead of embarking on a journey to North Wilkesboro Speedway for the purpose of practicing and qualifying for the NASCAR All-Star race. He will be the sixth driver in history to undertake “The Double” challenge, which involves racing 1,100 miles in a single day. He will begin by participating in the Indianapolis 500 in an Indy car and then swiftly go to Charlotte to compete in the Coca-Cola 600, NASCAR’s lengthiest race of the year.

The next race will take place at Kansas Speedway, where Hamlin is the current title holder.

“I’m not ready to make a prediction just yet,” Hamlin said, chuckling.
