Olympic Medalist Tori Bowie Dead At 32
The world of sports has lost a champion.
According to her management agency, Tori Bowie, a track and field athlete who won three medals for Team USA at the 2016 Olympics, died at 32.
“We are heartbroken to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away,” Icon Management Inc. said in an Instagram post on May 3. “We’ve lost a client, a close friend, a daughter, and a sister.” Tori was a champion…a shining beacon of brightness!”
“We’re truly heartbroken,” the statement said, “and our prayers are with her family, friends, and everyone who loved her.”
According to an agency spokeswoman, on May 2, deputies from Florida’s Orange County Sheriff’s Office were asked: “to conduct a well-being check on a woman in her 30s who had not been seen or heard from in several days.”
The woman, later identified as Frentorish “Tori” Bowie, was discovered dead in her house, authorities confirmed to the source, with the sheriff remarking that there “were no signs of foul play.”
The Orange County Chief Medical Examiner is investigating the cause of death.
Bowie, a Mississippi native, won gold with Tianna Bartoletta, Allyson Felix, and English Gardner as part of the 4100-meter relay team at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At the same Olympics, she also won a silver medal in the 100-meter dash and a bronze medal in the 200-meter dash.
Bowie’s teammates took to Instagram after her death to express their condolences. “I have so many feelings, and I’m trying to be very careful about how I express them,” wrote Bartoletta. “We need to start doing better for each other–helping each other LIVE in peace before we bury them in it.”
Meanwhile, Gardener captioned a photo of Bowie on her Instagram Stories, “A champion…“May you rest in peace.”
Bowie and her sportsmanship were also acknowledged by USA Track & Field. “Her impact on the sport is immeasurable,” the organization said in a statement on Twitter, “and she will be greatly missed.”
