London Prosecutor Calls Kevin Spacey ‘A Sexual Bully’ Who Preys On Men

LONDON, England – A prosecution told jurors Friday at Spacey’s sexual assault trial in London that Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey got a rush from preying on other men and escalated his behavior from touchy-feely advances to violent fondling and worse.

In her opening statement, prosecutor Christine Agnew described Spacey as “a man who does not respect personal boundaries or space, a man who appears to delight in making others feel powerless and uncomfortable — a sexual bully.” “His preferred method of assault appears to be aggressively grabbing other men in the crotch.”

Kevin Spacey, 63, has pleaded not guilty to a dozen charges stemming from allegations made against him while working at London’s Old Vic Theatre from 2001 to 2013. Sexual assault, indecent assault, and inducing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent are among the charges.

Winner of two Academy Awards, Kevin Spacey, whose spectacular acting career was wrecked by sex assault claims, will go on trial this week in London, accused of sexual offenses.

The stakes are great for the American actor. A conviction might land him in prison, yet an acquittal could allow him to resume work.

Kevin Spacey, according to defense counsel Patrick Gibbs, disputed all claims of nonconsensual conduct and invited jurors to ask themselves as they listened to the evidence what, if anything, had happened when he was with the guys. He claimed the alleged victims had ulterior intentions and that Spacey had left himself vulnerable to opportunists by coming out as gay in 2020.

“What has been reimagined with a sinister spin?” Gibbs stated. “What has been fabricated or twisted, and why and when, because all of these allegations occurred a long time ago?”

He predicted jurors would hear truths, half-truths, purposeful exaggerations, and “many damned lies.”

Kevin Spacey leaned forward behind a dock window, wearing spectacles and dressed in a light grey suit, white shirt, and gold tie, eagerly listening as his lawyer presented a brief review of the case. After the prosecution has rested its case, Gibbs will make a longer opening statement.

From 2003 to 2015, he was the artistic director of the Old Vic Theatre. The four guys, now in their 30s or 40s, who have accused Spacey of sexual assault did not know each other, but all “had the misfortune to attract” his attention, according to Agnew.

A prosecution told jurors Friday at Spacey’s sexual assault trial in London that Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey got a rush from preying on other men.

One victim claimed that Kevin Spacey repeatedly groped him against his will in the early 2000s, culminating in a day when he was driving and the actor, who had been drinking, grabbed his privates so firmly that it took his breath away and nearly drove him off the road. He warned Spacey not to do it again.

Kevin Spacey “laughed and commented that his getting angry simply turned him on,” according to Agnew.

As Agnew spoke, Spacey narrowed his eyes and pursed his lips, periodically scribbling notes in a huge black binder he took into court.

During a police interview last year, Kevin Spacey stated that he was “baffled and deeply hurt” by the charges made by someone he considered a friend. He said that the events had been recreated as lies.

Agnew claimed Spacey appeared to be convinced the men wouldn’t tell anyone — that the word of a celebrity would be more credible than that of a non-celebrity.

“None of the men wanted to be touched by Kevin Spacey… in a sexual way, but he doesn’t seem to have cared very much for their feelings,” the prosecutor added. “He did what he wanted to do for his own personal sexual gratification.”

Another man who claimed Spacey molested him at a charity event in 2005 told only one acquaintance about it before coming to the police in 2017.

“Kevin Spacey… was a star, a golden boy, as he put it,” said Agnew of the actor. “He wasn’t sure he’d be believed, and even if he was, he didn’t think he’d get any support.”

Spacey stated to the police that he had not done anything without consent. He admitted making a “clumsy pass” was “entirely possible and indeed likely,” but denied groping anyone’s crotch. He implied that some of the men were after money.

A prosecution told jurors Friday at Spacey’s sexual assault trial in London that Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey got a rush from preying on other men.

In 2008, a young actor who claimed he sought help from Kevin Spacey ended up at his London flat drinking beer and smoking marijuana. He either fell asleep or passed out on the sofa and when he awoke, Spacey was having oral sex with him, according to Agnew.

The man in his early twenties claimed Spacey urged him not to tell anyone about what had happened or to reveal that he had been in Spacey’s flat. The man stated that he was shocked as Spacey held the door open for him to leave and that he then walked to a bus stop and cried.

He decided to speak with police in 2017 after reading about charges against Spacey in the United States, according to Agnew.

Kevin Spacey’s career was wrecked when sexual misconduct allegations surfaced against him during the #MeToo movement. He was fired from Netflix’s political drama “House of Cards,” in which he portrayed Frank Underwood, a vicious and corrupt lawmaker who becomes president. He was deleted from the finished film “All the Money in the World,” the scenes with Christopher Plummer were reshot.

During the four-week trial in Southwark Crown Court, a jury of nine men and five women, including two alternates, will decide his fate. He is known by his full name, Kevin Spacey Fowler. The actor, who has homes in London and the United States, is on bail.

In the 1990s, Spacey rose to prominence as one of the most recognized performers of his generation, appearing in films such as “Glengarry Glen Ross” and “LA Confidential.”

A prosecution told jurors Friday at Spacey’s sexual assault trial in London that Oscar-winning actor Kevin Spacey got a rush from preying on other men.

He has received numerous prestigious acting honors for his theatre, film, and television work. He earned an Academy Award for supporting actor in “The Usual Suspects” in 1995 and a Best Actor Oscar in 1999 for his performance in “American Beauty.”

Kevin Spacey just had his first film appearance in several years, starring in 2022 in Italian filmmaker Franco Nero’s “The Man Who Drew God,” and as late Croatian President Franjo Tudjman in the biopic “Once Upon a Time in Croatia.” He also has a role in the unreleased American film “Peter Five Eight.”

He has stated that he will be in high demand if he is acquitted.

“There are people right now who are ready to hire me the moment I am cleared of these charges,” Spacey stated in a recent interview with Germany’s Zeit magazine.

Agnew informed jurors that they would have to assess the credibility of the victims and determine whether they were telling the truth or fabricating charges for financial gain.

“The prosecution suggests that Mr. Spacey… abused the power and influence that his reputation and fame afforded him,” Agnew said. “Taking what he wanted and who he wanted, when he wanted.”

Los Angeles  – In response to a complaint from a woman accusing Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual assault, his attorneys have responded. They have submitted a petition to dismiss some claims that were not legally applicable at the time of the claimed incident.

The application submitted in a New York court asserts that Diddy is immune from being sued due to the absence of specific legislation when Joi Dickerson-Deal brought the accusations against him in 1991.

The attorneys representing the music entrepreneur are seeking the dismissal of specific allegations made by Dickerson-Deal, including revenge porn and human trafficking, with prejudice.

In a previous legal submission, she alleged that Diddy deliberately administered drugs to her, subsequently took her to her residence, and engaged in sexual assault during a date in Harlem during her time as a 19-year-old university student.

The lawsuit claims that Combs surreptitiously recorded the attack and subsequently distributed it to multiple acquaintances inside the music industry, all without the victim’s awareness. He refuted the accusations, asserting that she was attempting to take advantage of the New York law that temporarily prolonged the period in which legal action could be taken.

Dickerson-Deal’s assertion was made almost thirty years after the supposed wrongdoing, and the New York State Revenge Porn Law was not officially established until 2019, according to Combs’ legal team.

In addition, his legal representatives highlighted several additional laws, such as the New York Services for Victims of Human Trafficking Law, enacted in 2007.

The standard practice of the Associated Press is to refrain from disclosing the identities of those who claim to have experienced sexual abuse unless they choose to make their allegations public, as Dickerson has done.

Recently, federal police conducted raids on Combs’ houses in Los Angeles and Miami as part of a sex trafficking investigation. The criminal probe represents a significant increase in the examination of Combs, who has faced multiple recent lawsuits regarding sexual assault.

Combs resolved a case the day after it was filed in November, in which his former protege and girlfriend, the R&B singer Cassie, accused him of sexual abuse, including rape, over several years. The lawsuit alleges that he coerced her into engaging in sexual acts with male escorts as he recorded the encounters.

In February, a music producer initiated legal proceedings claiming that Combs exerted undue influence on him to engage in the act of soliciting prostitutes and coerced him into engaging in sexual activities with them.

Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 Rape Conviction Overturned By NY Appeals Court

Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to an Additional 16 Years in Prison

New York – The highest court in New York overturned Harvey Weinstein’s rape conviction in 2020. This decision reversed a significant ruling from the #MeToo era, as it found that the trial judge had made an error by allowing women to testify regarding charges against Weinstein that were not relevant to the case.

Weinstein, aged 72, will continue to be incarcerated as he was found guilty of a further rape in Los Angeles in 2022. However, the recent verdict in New York brings back a distressing period in America’s confrontation with sexual misbehavior committed by influential individuals. This era commenced in 2017 when numerous accusations against Weinstein emerged.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office indicated its determination to pursue a new trial for Weinstein, perhaps requiring his accusers to once again recount their experiences under oath.

In a 4-3 judgment, the California Court of Appeals reversed Weinstein’s 23-year sentence, stating that the trial court made a mistake by allowing testimony about uncharged, alleged previous sexual actions involving individuals other than the victims of the offenses in question. The majority of the court deemed this as a “misuse of judicial discretion.”

Judge Madeline Singas expressed strong disapproval in her dissent, stating that the Court of Appeals was persisting in a troubling pattern of reversing juries’ guilty verdicts in cases related to sexual violence.

Weinstein has been incarcerated in a New York correctional facility following his conviction for engaging in non-consensual oral sex with a TV and film production assistant in 2006 and for committing third-degree rape against an aspiring actress in 2013. In the Los Angeles case, he received a 16-year prison sentence.

Arthur Aidala, the lawyer representing Weinstein, described the verdict by the Court of Appeals as a significant triumph for all individuals accused of crimes in New York state.

The office of the Manhattan district attorney expressed its commitment to make every effort to retry this case.

Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 Rape Conviction Overturned By NY Appeals Court

Lawyer Douglas H. Wigdor, who has legally represented eight individuals accusing Harvey Weinstein, including two witnesses in the New York criminal prosecution, described the ruling as “a significant regression in ensuring that those responsible for acts of sexual violence are held accountable.”

“Courts frequently allow the introduction of evidence regarding additional acts that the defendant has not been charged with, if it helps the jury to comprehend matters related to the defendant’s intention, method of operation, or overall plan.” Wigdor stated that overturning the verdict would be unfortunate because it would necessitate the victims to go through another trialafter the jury was informed of the importance of this testimony.

Debra Katz, a well-known lawyer specializing in civil rights and #MeToo cases, who advocated for multiple accusations of Weinstein, expressed that her clients are deeply devastated by the decision. However, she firmly believed and assured them that their testimonies had a profound impact on society.

“Individuals persist in stepping forward, individuals persist in providing assistance to other victims who have reported instances of sexual assault and violence, and I firmly believe that there is no possibility of reverting from this progress,” Katz stated, foreseeing Weinstein’s conviction at a subsequent trial.

She stated that the women derive immense solace from the fact that Weinstein will continue to be incarcerated.

The overturning of Weinstein’s conviction is the second significant setback for the #MeToo movement in the past two years, following the U.S. Supreme Court’s rejection of an appeal to reinstate Bill Cosby’s conviction for sexual assault, as ruled by a Pennsylvania court.

Weinstein’s conviction endured for almost four years, celebrated by activists and advocates as a significant accomplishment, but promptly scrutinized by his lawyers and, subsequently, by the Court of Appeals during the February hearings.

The accusations against Weinstein, the formerly influential and intimidating studio executive responsible for acclaimed films like “Pulp Fiction” and “Shakespeare in Love,” marked the beginning of the #MeToo movement. A multitude of women, including renowned actresses like Ashley Judd and Uma Thurman, stepped forward to accuse Weinstein. The New York trial he was involved in garnered significant media attention, with demonstrators outside the courthouse vocally accusing him of being a rapist.

Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 Rape Conviction Overturned By NY Appeals Court

Weinstein is currently imprisoned at the Mohawk Correctional Facility in New York, which is located around 100 miles (160 kilometers) northwest of Albany.

He asserts his innocence. He asserts that all sexual activity was consenting.

Aidala contended during the February appeals court hearing that Burke influenced the trial by permitting three women to provide testimony regarding charges that were not relevant to the case and by granting prosecutors the authority to question Weinstein, had he chosen to testify, about his extensive record of aggressive conduct.

Aidala contended that the additional testimony exceeded the usual permissible scope of providing information about purpose, opportunity, intent, or a common scheme or plan. Furthermore, it effectively subjected Weinstein to a trial for offenses for which he was not formally accused.

Weinstein expressed a desire to provide testimony but ultimately decided against it due to Burke’s judgment, which would have required him to answer inquiries regarding over twenty-four reported instances of misconduct spanning a period of forty years. His behavior encompassed engaging in physical altercations with his brother, forcefully overturning a table out of fury, berating waitstaff, and shouting at his subordinates.

An attorney representing the Manhattan district attorney’s office, responsible for prosecuting the case, contended that the judge’s decisions were appropriate and that the additional evidence and testimony he permitted were crucial in offering jurors a comprehensive understanding of Weinstein’s conduct and his interactions with women.

According to Appellate Chief Steven Wu, Weinstein’s acquittal on the charges of predatory sexual assault and first-degree rape, specifically related to actor Annabella Sciorra’s allegations of rape in the mid-1990s, indicates that the jurors were attentive and not confused or overwhelmed by the additional testimony.Typically, the Associated Press does not reveal the identities of individuals who claim to be victims of sexual assault unless they give their permission to be named. However, Sciorra has chosen to discuss her allegations publicly.

Harvey Weinstein’s 2020 Rape Conviction Overturned By NY Appeals Court

Last year, the Court of Appeals agreed to review Weinstein’s case following a decision by an intermediate appeals court to uphold his conviction.

Before rendering their decision, judges on the lower appellate court had expressed skepticism regarding Burke’s behavior during oral arguments. It was noted that Burke allowed prosecutors to present “highly biased testimony” from extra witnesses.

Burke’s tenure concluded at the conclusion of 2022. He was not renewed in his position and has ceased to hold the role of a judge.

Weinstein’s lawyers filed an appeal specifically requesting a fresh trial just for the charge of criminal sexual act. They contended that the rape case could not be subjected to a new trial due to the alleged behavior falling beyond the legal time limit.
