Carrie Actress Samantha Weinstein Dead At 28 After Cancer Battle
The acting world has lost a celebrity.
Samantha Weinstein, a Canadian actress best known for her performances in the 2013 remake of Carrie, died at the age of 28 following a two-and-a-half-year struggle with ovarian cancer.
According to a tribute on her social media website, she died on May 14 in Toronto, surrounded by loved ones.
“After two and a half years of cancer treatment, and a lifetime of jet setting around the world, she is off on her next adventure,” the May 15 Instagram statement said, “voice a plethora of cartoon animals, making music, and knowing more about life than most people will ever know.”
Weinstein began acting at six and has since been in films such as Big Girl, The Stone Age, and Toronto Stories. She also appeared as Heather in 2013’s Carrie, opposite Chloe Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore.

The Siblings actress revealed in July 2022 that she was diagnosed with cancer at 25 after finding she was “strangely bloated,” stating that the health fight “happened almost overnight.”
“My flatmate assured me her girlfriends got like this all the time and it was just ovulation… or something,” she wrote in a Love What Matters personal essay. “It was not ovulation or something.”
Weinstein said that after spending four days in the hospital recovering from surgery, she went home and battled with tremendous chronic pain.
“Every day was a struggle to keep my spirits up and not collapse into the blackhole that was my mind,” she explained. “How would this affect my health?” My profession? “What about my life?”
During that period, Weinstein reconnected with an old acquaintance, Michael Knutson, who would marry her in October.
“First dates were nerve-wracking enough, but I had just received some devastating news the week before—it was cancer,” she writes. “Talk about frightening a guy! But there was something about him that put me at ease.”
According to Weinstein, after alerting him about her health problems, the “inevitable rejection…never came.”
“Michael smiled and squeezed my hand,” she went on to say. “His mother had battled cancer for eight years and died two years ago.” He was prepared for it.”
She also praised her spouse, saying, “He taught me love is selfless and reminded me to let others take care of me too.”
