Bachman-Turner Overdrive “BTO” Drummer Robbie Bachman, Dead at 69
Robbie Bachman, the drummer for the Canadian hard rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive “BTO”, known for 1970s hits like “Takin’ Care of Business” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet,” died at the age of 69.
Randy Bachman, his brother and band-mate, announced his death on social media on Thursday, without elaborating on the cause.
“BTO’s pounding beat has left us,” Randy Bachman wrote. “He was a vital cog in our rock ‘n’ roll machine, and together we rocked the world.”
The Bachman brothers were Winnipeg natives who had grown up playing music.
Robbie Bachman first collaborated with his older brother Randy, a singer, songwriter, and guitarist, in the band Brave Belt, which the elder Bachman helped found in the early 1970s after leaving the chart-topping Guess Who.
Bachman-Turner Overdrive was formed in 1973 by the two Bachman’s, brother Tim Bachman on guitar (later replaced by Blair Thornton), and Fred Turner on bass, and sold millions of records over the next three years with their blend of grinding guitar riffs and catchy melodies. “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” was the band’s biggest hit, and it was followed by “Takin’ Care of Business,” “Hey You,” and “Roll On Down the Highway.”
Stephen King, a well-known fan, adopted the pen name “Richard Bachman” as a partial homage to BTO.
Randy Bachman left the band in the mid-1970s, giving the remaining members permission to use the name BTO (But not Bachman-Turner Overdrive so as to distance himself from the band).
Robbie Bachman and the others continued to tour and record as BTO, but their popularity waned and they disbanded in 1980.
Over the next few decades, the band had sporadic reunions and legal squabbles as Randy Bachman and Robbie Bachman fought over royalties and the band’s name. After the early 1990s, the brothers rarely performed together, with Robbie Bachman telling The Associated Press that Randy had “belittled” the other band members and compared them to the fictional parody group Spinal Tap.
Robbie Bachman had been semi-retired in recent years. In 2014, Bachman-Turner Overdrive was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
Death of Lisa Marie Presley
Bachman’s death comes a day after the death of Lisa Marie Presley. She died Thursday, hours after being hospitalized for a heart attack. She will be buried at Graceland, Elvis Presley’s famed home, which became a gathering place for fans distraught over her death a day earlier on Friday.
According to a representative for her daughter and actor Riley Keough, the singer-final songwriter’s resting place will be next to her son, Benjamin Keough, who died in 2020. Elvis and other Presley family members are also buried at Graceland.
Fans paid their respects at Graceland’s gates on Friday, writing messages on the stone wall, leaving flowers, and sharing memories of Elvis Presley’s only child, who was one of the last remaining touchstones to the icon whose influence and significance continue to resonate more than 45 years after his own unexpected death.
Lisa Marie, a singer-songwriter herself, did not live in Memphis, where she was born. She did, however, visit the city for her father’s birth anniversary and commemorations of his death, which stunned the world when he was discovered dead in his Graceland home on Aug. 16, 1977, at the age of 42. She was just in Memphis on what would have been her father’s 88th birthday.
Angela Ferraro was among those who visited Graceland on Thursday night, when the trees in the front lawn were lit up in green and red lights. On a chilly and windy evening, fans took photos and left flowers at the front gate.
Ferraro and her fiance drove from Olive Branch, Mississippi, 25 minutes to pay their respects. Ferraro said she liked Elvis’ music as well as Lisa Marie’s — the couple listened to Lisa Marie’s song “Lights Out” on the way to Graceland.
“Elvis died young, and she died young. “And her son’s death was also tragic,” said Ferraro, 32. “It’s difficult and devastating.”
Lisa Marie became the sole heir of the Elvis Presley Trust, which managed Graceland and other assets alongside Elvis Presley Enterprises until she sold her majority stake in 2005. She kept ownership of the mansion, the 13 acres surrounding it, and the c

Jennifer Lopez Reflects On How Her ‘World Exploded’ In The Past Year
Jennifer Lopez is getting honest about her life.
Lopez spoke with comedian Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine about the last year of her life, which included the cancelation of her planned concert tour and the dissolution of her marriage to Ben Affleck.
Glaser and Lopez began their conversation discussing Lopez’s role as Judy Robles in the film “Unstoppable.” Robles is the mother of Anthony Robles, an athlete born with one leg who went on to become a successful wrestler.
Glaser connected Jennifer’s training for the part to the star’s “struggle with low self-esteem.”

“My whole life has been proving my enoughness,” she stated. “Dealing with feeling like you’re enough starts when you’re very young, and it takes a long time to figure out because you don’t look at yourself that way. Something is driving you and your decisions, and you don’t understand why.”
Jennifer attributed some of her inspiration to childhood memories of “being ignored, being a middle child, having a very outgoing mom and a dad who worked all day and all night, and feeling like you weren’t important, like you weren’t a priority.”
“That embeds in you, and I believe your parents are doing their best. Even now, as a parent, I have a lot more empathy for what they’ve gone through,” she explained. “I love my parents, but I can see how their personalities and upbringing influenced me. You won’t even know till those traits show in your actual grownup relationships.”
The talk then shifted to her recent months, which have not been easy for Jennifer.
Jennifer felt a sense of accomplishment after working on the movie, “This Is Me…Now” music, short film, and documentary.
“I’m good,” she said. “I did all the work and look at where I am, and then it was like my whole f**king world exploded.”
Lopez’s highly publicized relationship with Affleck, which saw them reuniting decades after their first engagement ended, received even more attention in August when she filed for divorce.

It appears that she is now gazing forward rather than back.
“Now I’m excited, when you say you’re just going to be on your own,” Lopez laughed. “Yes, I’m not looking for anybody, because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f**kng do when it’s just me flying on my own.”
“What if I’m just free?” she continued.
“Unstoppable” is set for a limited release in theaters in December.

Chappell Roan On The Surprising Grammy Award She Really Wants To Win
Most musicians aspire to earn a Grammy, but Chappell Roan just wants one.
This year has seen the 26-year-old pop artist skyrocket to superstardom. Her debut album “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” topped the Billboard 200 Chart, trailing only Taylor Swift; she played to sold-out crowds at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits festivals; and she won best new artist at the MTV Video Music Awards.
So, what better way to round off her incredible year than by earning her first Grammy? With the Recording Academy voting deadline on October 15, Roan appears to be a lock for a Best New Artist nomination, among other top categories. However, she has stated that she is unconcerned about receiving plaudits.
“I’m kind of hoping I don’t win, because then everyone will get off my ass,” she stated in a recent interview.
She has also stated that she is unconcerned about the media attention surrounding her recent professional accomplishment.
“I’ve never given a f**k about the charts or being on the radio, but it’s so crazy how industry people are taking me more seriously than ever before,” she told Interview magazine this year. “I’m like, “I’ve been doing this the entire time, bitch.”

But there is one prize that Roan is very interested in, and it is in a category that most people are unfamiliar with.
The Grammy Award for Best Recording Package recognizes an album’s visual appearance and is presented to the project’s art director. Earlier this week, Roan and her creative director, Ramisha Sattar, shared a video on social media to call for support in the category.
“Please, please, please put some type of energy, a spell, whatever, that we get nominated for the Grammy,” Roan is quoted as saying in the clip. “It’s not aired, and most people are unaware of it, but winning a Grammy for both of us would be fantastic. We need to be nominated.”
Roan has made quite a few headlines. First, some interesting interviews that got political. Then came her revelation that she would vote for Vice President Kamala Harris, despite her hesitation to make a public support. Roan recently made headlines when she canceled festival engagements to prioritize her mental health.
Roan has not given any media interviews or canceled appearances since her endorsement, but in an email with CNN this week, she revealed why she wants to highlight her creative director, Sattar, whom she credits with most of her success.
“She is responsible for my aesthetics, merchandise, and overall campy vibe. She brings the camp into the initiative. That is extremely unique, and it deserves to be highlighted,” Roan told CNN about Sattar.
Sattar, who first met Roan on Instagram when the singer spotted one of her artistic collages, is in charge of developing the over-the-top, Gen Z Lisa Frank-esque style that has become synonymous with Roan’s drag-inspired stage presence. Sattar produces the animations for Roan’s presentations, selects her single covers, and helps with the star’s cosmetics and clothing.
“She is just as much Chappell Roan as I am, honestly,” Roan told CNN. “She is Chappell Roan too.”
This week, Roan and Sattar released a paper doll kit to accompany her vinyl album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” which features a theater curtain wrapper over the album cover, allowing fans to make their own stage. Sattar designed the package, which she and Roan collaborated on and submitted to the Grammys. They believe that the paper dolls will inspire creativity among Roan’s music fans.
“The paper dolls were something we were always dreaming about,” Sattar told CNN via email. “When I first developed the vinyl with Chappell, I knew there would be more to come. The idea of a theater frame that fans could modify and be creative with was very appealing to us both. I hope that my art inspires creativity and encourages others to make something with their hands. The delight of tactile creativity is something many children miss out on as they grow older, therefore I enjoy encouraging frivolous play.”
Sattar describes working with Roan as “like craft night, every night” and credits her closest friend for providing a “clear vision to each project.”
In an industry where artists receive public praise and accolades, Roan wishes to share the stage with her crew.

“This project is more than just my ideas. There’s a large crew working on it. It’s working because of everyone’s inventiveness,” Roan told CNN, calling Sattar her “twin flame.”
When the Grammy nominees are released on November 8, Roan and Sattar hope to be honored in the packaging category, and that the prize presentation will telecast during the live performance.
“Ramisha inspires me because she leads with her inner kid and what she finds cute and makes her happy. That is how I strive to manage my project: as authentic as possible while honoring my inner kid,” Roan remarked of their collaboration. “We inspire each other, but I feel like she has opened so many doors emotionally for me with art and letting go.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs To Stay In Jail While Appeals Court Takes Up Bail Fight
NEW YORK — A federal appeals court judge has ruled that Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in custody as he prepares a third bail application in his sex trafficking case, which is set to go to trial in May.
In a judgment filed Friday, Circuit Judge William J. Nardini refused the hip-hop mogul’s immediate release from jail while a three-judge panel considered his bail application.
Combs’ lawyers filed an appeal with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on September 30 after two judges denied his release.

Combs, 54, has been imprisoned in a federal jail in Brooklyn since his September 16 arrest on allegations that he used his “power and prestige” as a music artist to coerce female victims into drugged-up, elaborately staged sexual performances with male sex workers in gatherings known as “Freak Offs.”
Combs has pleaded not guilty to racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking charges, stating that he forced and tortured women for years with the support of a network of colleagues and workers, silencing victims via blackmail and violence such as kidnapping, fire, and physical beatings.
Three weeks ago, a court denied the defense’s $50 million bail bid, which would have allowed the “I’ll Be Missing You” singer to be placed under house arrest at his Florida mansion with GPS tracking and stringent visitor limits.
Judge Andrew L. Carter Jr., who has since recused himself from the case, stated that prosecutors presented “clear and convincing evidence” that Combs poses a danger to the community. He stated that “no condition or set of conditions” could prevent Combs from hindering the inquiry, threatening or hurting witnesses.
“Indeed, hardly a risk of flight, he is a 54-year-old father of seven, a U.S. citizen, an extraordinarily successful artist, businessman, and philanthropist, and one of the most recognizable people on earth,” according to the lawyers.
Combs’ lawyers have not asked Arun Subramanian, the new trial judge, to consider releasing him on bond. Subramanian said at a hearing Thursday that Combs, who stood with his lawyers in a gray jail jumpsuit, might be willing to discuss the problem.

After setting a trial date of May 5, Subramanian briefly questioned Combs’ lawyers about his treatment in the Metropolitan Detention Center, which has been beset by violence and disorder for years.
Combs’ lawyer, Mark Agnifilo, who had earlier sought to have him transferred to a New Jersey jail, told the judge, “We’re making a go of the MDC. “The MDC has been very responsive to us.”
Another Combs lawyer, Anthony Ricco, told reporters outside the courthouse that “he’s doing fine.” It’s a tricky situation. “He is making the best of the situation.”
However, Ricco stated that “nobody’s OK with staying in jail for now.”
