A man posing as an undercover plain clothes policeman has allegedly scammed “Jay Fai” Bangkok’s Michelin-starred street food vendor, doing a dine and dash, authorities said on Friday.

The Michelin star chef stated on her Instagram account, @jayfaibangkok, that she was looking for a man claiming to be a police officer with urgent business. He cut in line, finished his lunch, and then fled without paying his 2,310-baht bill on Thursday afternoon.

Supinya “Jay Fai” Junsuta, aged 78, later filed a complaint with the Samran Rat Police Station.

Police arrested the man on Friday after reviewing security video from the neighborhood. He was questioned before being led to the restaurant, where he apologized to Jay Fai.

He stated that he did not intend to skip the bill. He simply forgot to pay because he was in a rush to retrieve his car from a garage where it was being maintained. According to police the individual was not an inspector, but a retired local authority officer who claimed to have memory problems.

Jay Fai did not file charges. She stated that in the future, she will guarantee that her team is more diligent in collecting payments.

The police did, however, say they would look into the report of the man impersonating a police officer. They reported dining at a restaurant without paying is considered stealing under Section 345 of the Criminal Code, punishable by a fine of up to 5,000 baht and/or three months in jail.

Jay Fai’s Famous Crab Omelette

Supinya “Jay Fai” Junsuta owns a street-side restaurant in the Pratu Phi neighborhood of Phra Nakhon in Bangkok. Her food has been famous among those in the know for decades, but she rose to global prominence after her small cafe received a star in the Bangkok 2018 Michelin Guide.

Unlike posh eateries, Jay Fai’s eatery provides a unique dining experience located on Bangkok’s bustling streets.

It’s a fast-paced environment where you can see the culinary magic unfold right in front of you. Jay Fai and her team’s perfect choreography in the kitchen is impressive.

Fai’s culinary prowess revolves around her mastery of the wok. Every meal is cooked to perfection over roaring flames, imparting each bite with a smokey flavor that distinguishes her recipes.

Foodies love the sound of items sizzling in a hot wok.

Her renowned Crab Omelette is a must-try for every culinary journey. Consider this: a fluffy omelette loaded with luscious crab flesh, overflowing with flavors that will dance across your taste senses.

It’s no surprise that foodies from all around the world want to try this masterpiece.
