(VOR News) – King Charles III and Queen Camilla will extend a warm welcome to U.S. President Donald Trump at Windsor Castle during his historic second state visit to the United Kingdom, as per a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Monday.
The visit is scheduled to occur from September 17 to 19. The palace announced that Melania Trump, Trump’s wife, will accompany him on the three-day visit. The monarch and the royal family are objects of Trump’s ardent admiration.
Melania Trump serves as president of the United States.
No U.S. president has been extended an invitation to participate in a second state visit to date. President Trump had already participated in the pomp and circumstance of the 2019 state visit during his first term, which was hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, the late mother of Prince Charles.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer personally delivered the king’s invitation for the second state visit during a meeting conducted at the White House in February.
Upon concluding his reading, Trump referred to it as a “great, great honor” and expressed particular enthusiasm for his accommodations at Windsor Castle, which is situated to the west of the federal government. “That is truly remarkable,” he said.
It is anticipated that second-term US presidents who have previously visited Windsor Castle as part of a state visit will participate in a lunch or tea with the monarch. This was the case for both Barack Obama and George W. Bush, who visited the castle during their second terms in office.
Heads of state conduct formal meetings, known as state visits, to commemorate friendly nations and occasionally to ease tensions between rival powers.
Although the monarch is the one who formally extends an invitation for a state visit, he does so in accordance with the recommendations of the elected government.
Starmer might be flying to meet Trump and mitigate the UK’s policy setbacks.
The United Kingdom has not been subjected to the same substantial tariffs that other nations are currently experiencing from the United States as a result of their evident amicable relationship.
It is exceedingly unlikely that all individuals will warmly receive Trump, as was the case during his most recent visit. In the past, demonstrators launched a substantial blimp outside Parliament that depicted Donald Trump as an irate orange baby.
At a time when Trump is endorsing Israel’s invasion of Gaza and imperiling the sovereignty of allies such as Canada and Greenland, Labour Party legislators from Starmer’s party have challenged whether he should be awarded the prize.
Charles may encounter some obstacles during his visit, as he is the head of state of both the United Kingdom and Canada, which President Trump has declared should be the 51st state to join the United States. During an address to the Canadian parliament in May, the King of Canada emphasized the country’s “unique identity” and “sovereignty.”
Furthermore, he reiterated the lyrics of the national anthem when he declared, “The True North is indeed free and strong.”
Heads of state hold state visits to Britain in particularly high regard due to the grandeur and circumstance that accompany them. These excursions encompass carriage rides, military inspections, and a lavish state luncheon hosted by the monarch.
Buckingham Palace, located in the heart of London, typically hosts these events. The Trumps will also relocate to Windsor Castle, where French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte resided during their official visit last week. A substantial renovation project is presently underway at Buckingham Palace.
